UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS 1876 |
---|
We ("Age") have been requested to draw attention to the advertisement regarding University and Theological Scholarships. There are two of the value of £50 per annum, and two of the value of £25.
The Ormond Scholarship was founded by Mr. Francis Ormond, formerly of Geelong, three years ago, and has been held by Mr. A. C. Smith, a double exhibitioner of the University. As his tenure expires at the close of this year, it will be open for competition next year.
The next two scholarships have been recently founded by the Rev. William Hamilton, of Mortlake, and are meant to be a memorial of his son, a very promising student, who died in Glasgow while attending the Divinity Hall of that city.
These three scholarships are intended to assist young men who are looking forward to entering the ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria.
The fourth scholarship has just been founded by a settler in the Western district. It is for theological students, but is not confined to the Presbyterian Church. The conditions are that applicants must be University graduates, and must sign a declaration that it is their intention to study for one or other of the Protestant churches of this colony. They are not required to subscribe to any creed, but must satisfy the trustees that their religious opinions are in harmony with the fundamental doctrines of the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches of Victoria.
